Monstrum Pictures! An Hour and a Half to Go!
over 5 years ago – Wed, Nov 21, 2018 at 12:43:20 PM

Hey all! Wow, this last day has been INSANE! Kicktraq is currently saying we've done $76,000+ today, and it's behind again already!

How far can we go before the end? I have no idea!

So we busted through those last couple of stretch goals like they were nothing. I knew we'd hit them, but I didn't realize how fast! Sheesh!

That means that the printed scenarios and the Cthulhu Sculpture will now be joining us!

Unfortunately, I don't know that we can do any more goals currently. I'm hearing any more might not be feasible at this point. Sorry, guys. I would've liked one more for the road, too. Ah, well. There's always next campaign. =)

However, we do have some cool new pictures of the Monstrum prototype! There's no pictures of the foam inserts yet, but we should have those not long after the campaign ends hopefully. Here's a look at the prototype box:

You can still add Monstrum to your pledge for $45. And you're already getting its sister box, Profundum, for free with every Deeper Terrors, Investigator or All-In pledge.

So, also, the live stream will start in just a few more minutes, guys! Stay tuned for that! I can't wait to hang out with you all!

Next Stretch Goal - Printed Scenarios!
over 5 years ago – Wed, Nov 21, 2018 at 11:35:17 AM

We've done it, guys! Profundum is officially unlocked! How cool is that?

-

Now, some of you may be wondering if that was our last stretch goal.

(And some of you already know, because you've been looking at the campaign page. Sneaky eagle-eyed backers… ;)

But the answer is… NO! We've got something else coming up for you! And it is -

 -

That's right! For all of you who've been asking for the printed scenarios, I've officially eaten my previous comments that they wouldn't happen during this campaign. We will now be including them in the Profundum box we just unlocked (for every Deeper Terrors, Investigator and All-In pledge) should we reach $780,000! What's more, they will be available in all five supported languages!

Is that the end then for this Deep Madness campaign? Well, I guess we'll see. How quickly do you think we can get to $780,000?

Final Few Hours! More Cool Stuff! … Another Stretch Goal?
over 5 years ago – Wed, Nov 21, 2018 at 11:34:53 AM

We're here, everyone! The final day of the Deep Madness Second Printing campaign!

Wow! What an incredible ride this has been! Thank you so much for jumping on board to all of our new friends who have joined us, and many thanks to those who've been with us for the duration! You all are incredible, and we are so grateful.

It's kind of weird that this will be the last of this sort of update, isn't it? Well, it is for me, anyway. But maybe this means I'll get to bed before the not-so-wee hours of the morning. =D

In any case, let's get to it! There's only a few hours left, but there is so much going on in those few hours!

First of all, I came across another DM video from Dice Tower! While it is just another unboxing, it is a lot of fun to hear Zee Garcia's thoughts on the components. Check it out at Daily Game Unboxing - Deep Madness: Endless Nightmares.

 -

Next, we have another podcast for you all! Polyhedron Collider took an absolutely hilarious look at Deep Madness in their 50th episode of The Polyhedron Collider Cast. The Deep Madness discussion starts at 35:51. (But, in short, Andy Lewis says it's on his short list for Game of the Year!) Check it out here: http://bit.ly/2DOVZuu

(Also, it sounds like Andy Lewis is currently a returning backer on this reprint, so hi, Andy! Did Steve ever become a backer? 😉 )

Now let's get into the good stuff!

-

STRETCH GOALS

We are getting much closer to unlocking the printed scenarios for every Deeper Terrors, Investigator and All-In pledge! Score! We're not there yet, but do I think we'll get there? Why, yes. Yes I do.

 -

But what do you think? Do you think we can do it? Or, perhaps more importantly, do you think we can make it to ONE MORE?!

One very regularly requested thing from this campaign were for monster cards to be made of Evil Jon, the Weird Statue, and the Cthulhu-ish Sculpture. We've thus far committed to doing two of those (with your help.) But you might notice that there is one in-particular that is not on that list. Shall we rectify that?

 -

You heard that right! We have one more 11th-hour stretch goal for the last of the requested monster cards! SQUEE! If we can make it to $800,000, then this card will be a reality! CAN WE DO IT?!

Do you want to make sure that this card becomes a reality? Then help us share the game! There's still time to share the Facebook post we've been working on for the last couple of days, which you can find by going to http://bit.ly/DMFinal48. But, if you don't do Facebook, then spread the word on your platform of choice! Whether it's BoardGameGeek (you can find us at https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/202077/deep-madness), Instagram (we're at https://www.instagram.com/diemensiongames/), Twitter (https://twitter.com/DiemensionGames), or whatever you prefer. We can do this!

OTHER HAPPENINGS

So, a couple things to keep in mind for today. I will be live hanging out with all of you starting at 2pm PST today as we tick down the final minutes of the campaign and celebrate in traditional DM fashion! Be sure to subscribe to the feed so you don't miss it! (We're also going to try Facebook Live. We'll see how that goes.) I'll answer your questions, laugh at your jokes, show you minis, and probably offer spoilers. (Just judging by past live streams, that's what I'm expecting to happen at any rate.) So come join me and let's usher this campaign out in style!

Next of all, some of you might be wondering about our little Choose Your Own Terror story now that the campaign is winding down. (Especially since I promised to try to have the next one out yesterday and it didn't happen.) Well, I for one am having a lot of fun with it still, and I don't think the story's done yet. So, I plan to keep going with it. Hopefully I'll have one out later today, maybe after the live stream. (Or maybe we'll do it live on the stream if people want? Who knows!) At the latest it'll be tomorrow. I probably won't do it every couple of days any more now that I'm going to need to get back to a somewhat more regular life, but we're going to keep this thing alive for the foreseeable future. (As long as you guys keep enjoying it is the main thing.)

Also, we haven't gotten through looks at all of the Visages yet! I plan on finishing these up as well for you in the days and weeks following the close of this campaign, just like we kept showcasing characters and monsters after the end of the first campaign. It doesn't really feel appropriate to do one in this update, but we definitely will finish them up for you soon.

All that to say, buckle up, everyone! We're not to the end of this campaign yet, and it's going to be a wild ride to the finish line!

Final 48 Hour Social Stretch Goal!
over 5 years ago – Tue, Nov 20, 2018 at 11:42:16 PM

It's official folks! We are in the final 48 hours of the campaign! (Actually, technically we're currently in the final 46 hours, for those who are really keeping track.)

We want to end this campaign with a huge bang, but we're going to need your help to do that. So here's what we're going to do: we're going to have one more social stretch goal. If we can reach 300 shares of our special 48 Hour post on Facebook, then we will commit to creating (with your help) a monster card for the Weird Statue that will be in every Deeper Terrors, Investigator and All-In pledge!

A really WIP version of the Weird Statue

So what do you think? Can we make this last social stretch goal a reality?

No, wait! On second thought, don't think! Let's just get to sharing!

Go to http://bit.ly/DMFinal48 and share!

Thanks for being incredible, friends! Here's to an incredible final two days!

Just Over 1 Day and Counting! Stretch Goals and Ward's Story
over 5 years ago – Tue, Nov 20, 2018 at 12:47:45 PM

Welcome, friends, to one of the last daily posts for Deep Madness! Can you believe it? I can't. This campaign has just blazed past! To everyone who is joining us for the first time, welcome! And, to all of our long-time friends, it's great to chat with you again!

We just recently were featured in another video by Rolling Solo. Adam takes a look at the game's Kickstarter page this time in his current campaigns to watch, and he mentions some good points about Deep Madness. If you're interested, here's the video (we fast-forwarded to the Deep Madness part for you):

 -

WEIRD STATUE AND PROFUNDUM

Well boy! You all busted through that social stretch goal in just a few hours. Impressive!

And of course you know what that means: we will (with your help) be making a card for the Weird Statue for every Deeper Terrors, Investigator and All-In pledge! Woohoo! So feel free to start submitting more of your ideas, because this thing is happening!

-

Thank you for being so quick to share the post. We've gotten word that we can't do any more social stretch goals (sigh… accountants…) but we're going to ask you to keep sharing the post anyway. And we think you will. You know why? …Because we're less than 200 backers away from unlocking Profundum!

 -

You heard that right! We are getting SO CLOSE to unlocking Profundum for every backer in the Deeper Terrors, Investigator and All-In pledge levels! We've already hit the funding level, but now all we have to do is find a few more backers and we're set!

All of that to say, let's keep sharing that Facebook post! You can find it at http://bit.ly/DMFinal48.

WARD'S VISAGE

I promised you that we'd have Ward's story in short order a couple of days ago, and now here it is. I know that some people had some particular hopes for how this story would go, and I have a feeling it won't go the way you were rooting for. However, hopefully you'll enjoy it anyway. And, for those of you who are new to our campaign, here's Ward's art again:

Illustrated by Pedro Sena - Lordigan.
Illustrated by Pedro Sena - Lordigan.

 --

I find myself becoming more and more disturbed with every passing day. The aberrations continue to infest my mind, and I seem unable to extricate myself from their eldritch grip. I write regularly in this tome with a near-religious fervor, hoping to exorcise these black terrors from the pit they have dug in my soul. But my efforts have thus far proven woefully inadequate in freeing me.

I seem to be living in two distinct realities at once. (Or is it in fact three?) There is my present home, where I recline in my sturdy, trusted and familiar chair, surrounded by my volumes of antiquarian lore. But then there is a second world of strange, otherworldly lands and beings of unimaginable, primordial power. It is in this land that I most become confused, however, because as I am there for any length I find myself slipping into that third realm, as if my raft has passed from placid straights into a terrifying gauntlet of whirlpools and rapids. This third land is one of cold steel and dark halls, where monstrous abominations lurk. What is worst, when I am there it feels like the most true and concrete place of them all.

--

The writer should not exist. You know that instinctively as you look at him. Or, if he did belong in the world, it was in a time long-since past, an era that has now been nearly forgotten. It's not just his clothes, either: it's his mannerisms, his way of speech, his biases. And it's also the hopelessly lost, haunted, and confused look in his eyes.

He clutches that book to his chest as if it contains all of the secrets and horrors of the universe. You wonder briefly what is really in the thing. The cover actually looks like it's leather. You don't know if you've ever seen a leather-bound book in your life.

"So where are you from, Ward?" you ask casually, trying to keep an eye out for the rest of the team - or anything else that may be coming your way.

Ward clears his throat. "Providence," he says quietly. "Rhode Island."

"Really!" you exclaim. "You're quite a ways from home. How did you come to be in Kadath?"

Ward's face twitches. "I have wondered that ever since I first stepped foot here," he says. "But… I think it had to do with a girl."

--

My world is turned upside down. My calm, comfortable, familiar world of solid fact has drifted off into a hazy, impregnable netherworld, and I cannot seem to find any way back to it no matter how I may try. My only course is forward, into the shifting lands of the other. I fear that I am truly lost, a ship without a rudder – or even a captain.

Wait. There is someone here with me. A presence: one that I have felt prodding me many times before. At length I see her. The woman (little more than a girl) emerges before me, gathering her essence from some other plane of existence. And, as she appears, it is as if I see myself in a mirror. I am sitting in my old, familiar study, in my favorite armchair. The woman steps up to this second me, though the other me doesn't seem to be able to see her. Leaning down, she says simply, "Awake."

I watch in abject horror as the other me unleashes a feral roar. His - my - head begins vibrating at a prodigious speed, whipping erratically back and forth. And then it splits open like a book - no, it is the book. My book. My old, ever-faithful commonplace book, which is no longer that. It has become a tome of dark, sinister energies; energies which now erupt forth out of it like a torrent of tumultuous, irrepressible abyss. They are pulling themselves free of the pages, beings that had always remained hidden in the depths of my soul before now. Oh, to even glance at them - It is too much -

Those eyes. They are staring at me, like embers at midnight. Like burning stars that scorch the soul and ignite the flesh. The tentacles whip hither and thither in a frenzy, obsidian electricity and liquid lightning sizzling between them and the book. As the arms press free from the confines of my shirt, I see my head pouring out of the book. I am screaming.

The woman turns now and looks at me. Her eyes are the same miniature suns as the beasts'. "Ward Phillips," she says, "I have need of you. Come to me."

I cannot stomach the sight any longer. Turning, I flee into the strange, open embrace of the dream worlds.

--

"Pardon me," Ward says. "I have always been more confident conveying my thoughts upon the page than in person. And this place seems to have thoroughly unbalanced my constitution. It's… always been a mite delicate, though I am reticent to admit it."

"Oh, not a problem," you reply, trying to piece this man together. "So you came here because of a girl, huh?"

"Indeed," Ward says. "She… drew me here, I believe."

You are advancing down the corridor now, Ward striding by your side.

"She must have quite the pull on you to do that," you say.

Ward chuckles. "You might say that. In fact, if memory serves, her call may even have been powerful enough to shatter me in two."

"Ouch," you say. "So she broke your heart?"

"No, I mean that quite literally," Ward says.

"Wait, what --" you say. Then you turn a corner, and you see the man tied to the chair, a fountain of horrors spraying from the book that should be his head like a hydrant from hell. You realize this being is wearing the same clothes as Ward. The shrieks the thing is making as the dark entity pulls itself free of his body, though, can barely be described as human.

--

Well that's it for now, friends! I doubt you're going to get through a whole day without hearing from us again, though. For starters, I'm going to try to have the next part in our Choose Your Own Terror story up later today, and I have a feeling there might be another update coming with some fresh stretch goal information.

Having said that, perhaps another little teaser is in order. After all, this is something that many of you have been asking for.

Okay, just a hint.
